Close set eyes are when the distance between the eyes is miniscule. Close set eyes are characterized by an ESR of 0.43 or below and will significantly impact a person's looks starting at >0.41.

Individual with very close-set eyes

Some people argue that close set eyes are worse than wide set eyes (a notable example being Wheat Waffles in his "Analyzing The Perfect Male Face" series) as it gives an inbred appearance as opposed to the neotenous appearance of wide set eyes, while others argue that it's easier for men to get away with close set eyes due to its masculine connotation.
