Cheeks

Cheeks are composed of both muscles and fat. Infants have chubby cheeks due to buccal fat.
Hollow cheeks are the result of either buccinator muscle atrophy, highly projected zygomatic bones (and potentially zygomatic arches), or a combination of the two. They are noted as an attractive feature in both in both sexes, as they increase the face's angularity, and can make the face look more lean and healthy (not always the case). They can be considered the result of correct swallowing pattern, although those with larger cheekbones (in terms of lateral prominence) typically have them regardless of their swallowing behavior and sometimes body fat percentage (very rare occurrence, usually one must be very lean to have this feature).
