Baldwin IV
Baldwin IV was the King of Jerusalem, he had leprosy that severely disfigured his face. Contrary to the media’s portrayal of him, he did not wear a mask. After his father's death in 1171, he became king of Jerusalem at the age of 13. His mother Agnes, who had not been in his life since he was 2, came in and sadly estranged him from his sister. At the age of 15, he was forced to engage militarily against Saladin, attempting to strategize on how to plan an offensive in Egypt. He gained notoriety at 16 years old, he led outnumbered Christian forces against Saladin's troops in what became one of the most notable engagements of the Crusades. The defeat happened at Battle of Montgisard. A Two-year truce was arranged in 1180, but, soon after it expired, Saladin captured Aleppo. In an attempt to keep the succession to the throne in his family, the childless Baldwin crowned his nephew King Baldwin V.
