"Involuntary Celibate Violent Extremism" (Domestic Terrorism Reference Guide)[1][edit | edit source]
The FBI differentiates between Involuntary celibate violent extremists (IVEs) and incels.
According to them, "Involuntary celibate violent extremists (IVEs) are incels who seek to commit violence in support of their belief that society unjustly denies them sexual or romantic attention, to which they believe they are entitled. [The Incel community] blames political or social movements, such as feminism, for empowering others to deny them romantic or sexual attention. [...]"
Criticism[edit | edit source]
- Inceldom is a life circumstance, not a movement/community. It may be the case that a small part of individuals living involuntary celibate engage with each other online, yet this doesn't mean incels as a whole demographic are well connected, as seen in the drastically increased stastical rate of those never having had sex where most are probably even unaware of the incel phenomenon existing in the first place since the visibility and popularity of incels is relatively low.
- incels are divided in the belief of being entitled to sexual or romantic attention (as in many other views), so generalizing sentiments within this area is inadequate and small-minded.
