Incel: Difference between revisions

[[Incel]], is an [[Donnelly Study#Incel is Now a Valid Academic Sociological Term|academic sociological term]] that is short for and means, ''''involuntary celibacy'''', a life circumstance.  Specifically, it is the life circumstance of, "single without choosing to be so".  And so it is '''not''' a community, subculture, organized group, movement, or a philosophy.  It is just as much a 'community' as the 'involuntary impoverished' are a community, and just as much a subculture as trans people are a subculture, so, it is neither.  Individual philosophies like the [[blackpill]] or subcultures like [[4chan]] culture emerge on some, but not all, forums dedicated to involuntary celibates and go in and out of fashion.  [[Inceldom]] was first academically recognized as a sociological phenomenon by the [[Donnelly Study]].  The [[Donnelly Study]] defined incels as '''all''' adults who would like to have a sexual or romantic relationship with someone of the gender they are attracted to but can't find one for free for 6 months or more, and then remain celibate. The date may seem arbitrary, but there had to be a cutoff point, and sociologist [[Denise Donnelly]] chose 6 months as that factored in that almost everyone goes without sexual intimacy for months, but it is only unusual after a few months.  [[File:67.jpg|thumb|right|<center>What people think incels want <br> vs. what they really want</center>‎]]Most people who self-identify as incel are not [[standardcel]]s as they cannot find *anyone* willing to have sex with them for free.  This wiki is not an extension of any academic project, forum, or subculture, but rather a cataloging of people, theories, and activities that relate in any way to the academic term: "incel".  [[Ton den Boon|The first lexicographer to define "incel"]], defined it as a gender-neutral life cirumstance rather than a subculture. Its unabbreviated form was coined in 1739 by [[Antoine Banier]] in his book on ancient Greek mythology.  Inceldom overlaps but is distinct from '[[sexual frustration]]', in that an involuntary celibate may simply accept their [[incelibacy]] and not feel bad about it.
