is not direct demand regulation, it's regulating availability of supply.  It's saying "This is not for you".  Not decreasing the amount someone will want something.  You are trying to psychologically manipulate someone from transferring demand to actual success, it does't actually decrease demand, and certainly not desire.  If I tell someone they are going to be punished for wanting sex and so they have less sex, it's not because they want it less it's because they are told they will be punished if they have it.  IE it's regulating the availability of sex, see supply side sexual economics.  Similarly encouraging people to have sex through reward/punishment during or after-the-fact, rather than brainwashing or providing purchasing power before-the-fact also is not demand-side, it's trying to influence output rather than desireWilliam (talk) 18:41, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

For example, North Korea heavily shames watching foreign films.  This does not decrease the demand for foreign films, it only manipulates people who are demanding it to do it less openly so as to reduce the influx of film coming in.

To better explain, we can look at economics.
