Voat was a Reddit alternative social media platform created by both Atiko and PuttItOut in 2014. Voat was created for users and ex-Redditors who were extremely pissed off at Ellen Pao's censorship campaign of Reddit after the banning of r/FatPeopleHate over a hilarious and memorable meme. A meme that started this SJW insanity over the ending of "hate speech" based on their collective schizophrenia with delusional wet Red Army dreams. The site has also been described by users as a model for other censorship-free social media platforms including Gab, Parler, Poal, Minds, Substack, Gettr, and Ruqqus.

Company and funding[edit | edit source]

Founded in April 2014 as WhoaVerse, the website was a hobby project of Atif Colo, known on Voat as @Atko. He was later joined by Justin Chastain, known as @PuttItOut on Voat. The website have been an perfect alternative to Reddit with a focus on freedom of expression and speech. In December 2014, WhoaVerse changed its name to Voat for ease of use.

Although Voat was based in Switzerland, Voat became incorporated in the United States in August 2015. Colo explained in a post announcing the incorporation that this was because "Switzerland seemed like a great option in the beginning, but when it comes to freedom of speech, the main idea behind Voat, U.S. law by far beats every other candidate country we’ve researched.". This is true, as the country of Switzerland does have a National Constitution similar to the Bill of Rights provided by the U.S. Constitution, specifically the section of privacy in Swiss law. Following a large influx of users from Reddit in July 2015 after several bannings of various other Reddit subs, Voat's operators were approached by investors interested in funding the project, though they said they "hadn't had the time to talk" about the offers.

In January 2017, Colo resigned as CEO of Voat, citing a lack of time available to devote to the site, Colo was replaced as CEO by Chastain.

Shutdown[edit | edit source]

In May 2017, Chastain ran a fundraising campaign, announcing that Voat might have to shut down due to lack of money. However, after forming a partnership with an investor, Voat stayed online. On December 22, 2020, Voat again announced that it would be shut down due to a lack of funding, Co-founder and CEO Chastain explained that the funding for the site was all supported by himself after a key investor defaulted on their contract in March. After the announcment was made, the Goats made their best memes and partied onward till Voat shuttered it's pen gate on December 25th, 2020. It returned several days later as Talk.LoL (Voat.xyz) started up by the Goats, but without PuttItOut or Atko.

History[edit | edit source]

Over six years of operation, Voat provided a safe haven for ex-redditors who were victims of Reddit's retarded moderation decisions and policies, including the banning of various subreddits which caused several influxes of Reddit users to Voat. To which us Goats called them "Nigger-Faggots" as a way to test their skin thickness against mean words and opinions. In early June 2015, Reddit banned five subreddits including, r/FatPeopleHate (know as FPH) over a hilarious memorable meme. The sub had around 150,000 subscribers, many of which began to create accounts on Voat temporarily overloading the server. In early July 2015, following the dismissal of a popular administrator on Reddit, another influx of Reddit members registered with Voat, leading to traffic levels which again caused Voat to experience some downtime. In November 2016, more users relocated to Voat after Reddit banned the Pizzagate subreddit, r/pizzagate, due to "doxxing and harassment" concerns (Reddit is littered with pedos, anyway Do not forget Aimee Chanellenor & IncelTear) and was fully accepted by the Voat Community.

On November 2017, Reddit's Involuntary Celibate Community moved to Voat after the Reddit incel community, r/incels, was banned over unrelenting paranoia. As usual, Voat's Security System was back to work as many Incels could not deal with the full blackpill package of free expression as most of the complaints were about the so-called "anti-semitism" that is open on Voat. Keep in mind there is nothing wrong with the open freedom. On 26 June, 2018, 4Chan thought it would be fun to initiate a raid onto Voat by flooding the page what we already know with a more vicious streak that made the /pol/ chan rethink their decision as they concluded that Voat is more far-right than they were. On September 12, 2018, Reddit banned several subreddits dedicated to discussing the Q-Anon psychological operation stating that the sub violated its rules prohibiting "inciting violence, harassment, and the dissemination of personal information." This caused many of the Q-Tards to migrate to Voat then later leave back to Reddit and other alternative platforms such as Gab after many of them also complained about the "anti-semitic" blackpill truth.

In April 2019, Voat's CEO announced in a post that he had been contacted by a "US agency" (probably the FBI or DHS) about threats that were being posted on the website. Although, most Goats believe that those threats were posted by a notorious nigger, named GoatSlayer who is also active on Voat.xyz. In the post, Putt wrote that Voat would work with law enforcement and take down any "gray area" posts if requested and many Goats took offense to the curtailing of their ability to post blackpills while Chastain's post followed up with a hilarious speech mocking the "US Agency" who contacted him.

The Downfall of Voat[edit | edit source]

Voat's web hosting service, Host Europe (a precursor to Webfusion), refused service to Voat in June 2015. Alleging that the website was publicizing incitement of the people, as well as abusive, insulting and youth-endangering content and illegal right-wing extremist content that is considered illegal under German law. Host Europe is based in Germany and is subject to stringent hate speech legistration than of the United States. Voat's founder attributed the shutdown to unchecked and rampant political correctness by radical far-left entities. In response, PayPal froze the payment processing services to Voat the same month due to "sexually oriented materials or services" which hosted sexualized images of minors ("jailbait"). A degenerate subverse made for jews was owned by a notorious user named Hencho, who was despised by everyone on Voat. After this incident, Goats viewed all pornography including CP as instruments of the Jew and suspended the posting of porn onto the website. Voat continued to send accept cryptocurrency donations from other Goats and was able to continue functioning as it had moved to a different hosting provider, Epik which also hosts Gab. The website continued to experience downtime due to an ongoing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, rendering the 700,000 unique visitors unable to access the site after several posts were made explaining the full dark side of Prince Andrew and Jefferey Epstein partnership.

Also in July, Voat alongside WikiLeaks, were subjected to a Bitcoin "dust" attack and more DDoS attacks. The Bitcoin attack slowed payment processing to the websites. The DDoS attack, launched July 12 and was unsuccessful due to Epik's DDoS protection services. Although the DDoSing of Voat had the side effect of rendering third-party Voat apps incapable of functioning on iOS & Android.

Er Ist Wieder Da! (Look Who's Back!)[edit | edit source]

On Janurary 2021, several days after the shutdown of Voat in December 25, 2020. The website returned back to a new UI similar to Poal and Voat when combined. Voat.xyz or as Talk.LoL in a form of a joke among the community.
