Talk:Lookism
Statement needing quote?[edit source]
Currently, the article states: ‘It is commonly assumed looks would only play a role in short-term partnerships, and that personality matters more in a long-term relationship. This is not the case.[8]’ (source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22468419/)
The source states ‘traits like kindness were a necessity in long-term mating and for women’ (sic), so this is not what the research article says exactly. Some quotes from the full paper would help gauge how much each (ie personality vs physicality) matters and how. (The title ‘More than just a pretty face and a hot body: multiple cues in mate-choice’ itself tends to hint at the opposite claim, actually.)
A relevant claim from the abstract is that face matters more than body for the long term (for… health reasons amongst others, which tends to contradict another of the article’s claims: ‘People assume beauty strongly predicts ability and health, but in truth these correlations are quite weak.[1]’), which shows that looks still matter, but that does not imply that personality does not matter too in the long run.
