Another point worth investigating is that women may rate a given man according to a Bell curve (for example, there seems to be a quite large variation in physical masculinity preferences amongst women). So, in particular, a man could be rated as below medium by women on average, but have a non-negligible proportion of women still rate him higher than the computed mean (in other words, he may be their ‘type’). Since there is generally greater variation in the male population than in the female population, it would make sense that women disagree more on a man’s attractiveness than men do about a woman’s attractiveness.
