According to more modern scientific understanding, the group more compatible with lifelong marriage, the ''alpha'' group, can be identified as slow [[life history]] strategists, where the ''beta'' group are fast life history strategist. Unwin did not use these teams as the life history theory was only developed in the 1950s, after his death.
