'''Atavisms''' are traits of ancient ancestors that were [[reproductive success|reproductively successful]] in the ancient ancestor's past environment, showing up in modern day offspring. These ancient ancestral traits may or may not be advantageous to have in modern times. In order for a trait to be considered an atavism the child's parents can't have the trait and neither can recent ancestors.
