Social constructionism: Difference between revisions

'''Social constructionists''' believe that gender, race, class, and disability are only or predominantly ''socially constructed'' rather than a result of evolution. They claim that very little is predetermined by biology and that humans are for the most part ''blank slates'', i.e. infinitely malleable. This is typically accompanied by a notion that once we accept this, we can achieve a more harmonious society, even utopia. Scientific consensus is that the blank slate of human nature is wrong. While it is true, that humans are very malleable and that there is in some regards huge cultural variation, there are many behaviors, emotions, tendencies and traits, especially the ones mentioned above.
