Studies show that women are happier being single than men (Hosie 2017). This is confirmed by other studies which show women also report lower satisfaction about being in any type of relationship than men (Battersby 2015).

In a supply and demand model for relationship dynamics, this would further reinforce that men have a greater desire for women than vice versa. Such a gender imbalance in demand would thus be expected to decrease supply of available women relative to men who are looking for women, which would inflate female value and allow women to be even more selective.
