Yahoo Personals Dating Preferences Study sought to examine the dating preferences of online daters in four major metropolitan areas: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Atlanta. Internet daters' profiles of self-identified Asian, Black, Latino, and White men and women seeking opposite-sex dates were collected and coded from Yahoo Personals, which was the most popular national online dating web site in 2004 and 2005.

Overall, women were more likely than men to state they had a "racial preference", and over 90% of women who did express a racial preference stated it was their preference to exclude Asian men.
Overall, women were more likely than men to state they had a "racial preference". Of the women how had a preference 95.3% excluded Indian men, and 94% excluded middle eastern men. As with most studies, white men were the most popular overall, followed by hispanic, then black, then asian, then middle eastern, then indian men.

Findings like this make one wonder: At what point is something truly "just a preference", when 90% of women with a "preference" share the same one?
