"Incel" as sniglonym

Sniglonym is a term derived from blending the word "sniglet" with the suffix "-onym". Sniglonyms are terms whose date of coinage postdates the preexisting concept or object that it defines. The term "incel" is a sniglonym. This is because the term "incel" was coined in the 1990s, despite the fact that the phenomenon of unintentionally/involuntarily celibate people existed before the 1990s. In fact, the usage of the unabbreviated form "involuntary celibacy" reaches back at least to the 18th century.
