Incelosphere: Difference between revisions

The first pick-up artist [[Ross Jeffries]] publishes "How to Get the Women You Desire Into Bed" in 1992, arguing against [[nice guy]] behaviour.  The [[alt.seduction.fast]] Usenet newsgroup is founded by Lewis De Payne, a student of [[Ross Jeffries]] in 1994. [[Michel Houellebecq]] publishes his first novel, "[[Whatever]]", containing the most frank discussion of increased sexual stratification and pauperization.  

Although the term "incel" did exist in the late-90s, the most common term in the incelosphere used to refer to involuntarily celibate people in the 90s was, "socially anxious men", on the [[alt.support.shyness]] Usenet Group and "AFC" meaning "average frustrated chump" on the [[alt.seduction.fast]] (ASF) Usenet newsgroup. [[Alana's Involuntary Celibacy Project]] coined the word [["incel"]] in 1997 and started as an academic research project on incels.  This project got a study published called the [[Donnelly Study]] by sociologist [[Denise Donnelly]]. This study and it's subsequent citations was the entry for the term "involuntarily celibate" as a valid sociological term. In 2008, 4chan's [[r9k]] board appeared, the first [[4chan]] board that arguably became an unofficial incel forum.  Since 2008, [[r9k]] defined most of what Wikipedia and media as of 2018 refers to as "incel culture".  Also, in 2008, the first clip of the unreleased US incel documentary [[The Incel Project]] was uploaded to blip.tv, the project was abandoned sometime between 2012-2014, with only a couple clips floating around. Around 2008, the anti-feminist [[True Forced Loneliness]] 'movement' started, a space adjacent to incel boards consisting of three (later 16+) vloggers and a website complaining about dating from a societal perspective. In 2009, [[love-shy.com]] came under the adminship of an extremely anti-feminist admin for a couple years.  This is the same year that the [[PSL]] boards started, a sequential group of raucous forums that happened to contain a lot of involuntary celibates. In 2011, the subreddit [[foreveralone|r/foreveralone]] starts as a peaceful place for incels to congregate. In 2013, [[IncelSupport]] crashed, and all forum posts were lost in the process.   

In 2014, [[Robin Sprenger]] publishes academic literature on inceldom called, "Male Absolute Beginner: A Communication Science Approach to Explaining Partnerlessness", which is self-explanatory.  It was published in Springer VS.

In 2014 a new [[IncelSupport]] was trying to emerge, but failed due to lack of interest. [[Wizchan]] began in 2014.  Also in 2014, the [[PSL]] boards now all contained 'rate me' subforums, furthering lookism in the incelosphere. During 2014-2015, the incel presence on Reddit began, mostly through [[Caamib]] from [[love-shy.com]], starting with the extremely [[anti-feminist]] subreddits: r/truecels and r/incels.  The emergence of [[anti-incel]] forums like [[inceltears]] and [[leftbook]] tag groups began the start of the [[Battle of Incelistan]].  In 2017 the Facebook group [[Incelistan]] began but not as a response to the similarly titled [[Battle of Incelistan]], but more as a response to [[anti-incel]] [[leftbook]] tag groups.  Almost all the members of [[Incelistan]] came from the Facebook group [[Ancapistan]] and not any subreddit or established incel forum. In November 2017 r/incels and r/truecels were banned, with that 'community' moving to the new sites incel.life and [[incels.me]].  Incel.life was shut down in 2018, thanks to an effort by [[Babe Magazine]].  In early 2018, Alana decided to rebrand her failed and abandoned research project to, "Love not Anger", after accepting feminist criques of the word, "incel", being an inherently sexist word. In late 2018, some more incel sites were created from incels.me users, but we'll see if they last long enough to be worth putting in here. Although the trueforcedloneliness.com website is no longer operational, there are still sporadic blogs and vlogs wherein creators self-identify as [[TFL|TFLers]].

There are also non-English incelospherian communities, such as the German [[Absolute Beginners]], the Italian [[Forum of Ugly]], and the Japanese [[Kakuhido]].
