The GamerGate arbitration case laid the foundation for applying discretionary sanctions to "(a) GamerGate, (b) any gender-related dispute or controversy, (c) people associated with (a) or (b), all broadly construed."[1]

In other words, it created a precedent for any admin to ban anyone at any time for any reason on any page even tangentially related to gender.
Gamergate arguably made Wikipedia more authoritarian.
