Advocacy (Wikipedia)

Advocacy on Wikipedia is when one edits with the intent to create bias, or argue for one side, rather than impartially weigh the logic and evidence offered by both sides in an attempt to make articles neutral.
Usually the way in which "advocacy" is determined is through the use of ad hominem techniques, such as seeing whether the user has a conflict of interest or has engaged in advocacy off-wiki. To avoid accusations of advocacy, many users have neutral userboxes (e.g. just saying "This user is interested in x" or "This user is a member of WikiProject x", rather than expressing an opinion about a contentious topic x), and avoid letting their real-life identities, activities, and affiliations become known.
