Ton den Boon is the editor in chief of Van Dale's Great Dictionary of the Dutch language. Born in 1962, he studied at the University of Groningen and then worked for about a decade as a dictionary editor and communication advisor. On the 2nd of May 2018, he became the first lexicographer to define the term "incel". On the day it was defined, it was also made the Word Of The Day in Van Dale's website. den Boon defined "incel" as:
(gender-neutral countable noun) someone who lives an involuntarily celibate life; an acronym of "involuntary celibate" [Dutch original: (m/v, -s) iemand die onvrijwillig celibatair leeft, Engels, een acroniem van involuntary celibate][1]
