Hypergamy: Difference between revisions

Women are constantly calculating whether the gains from a new [[relationship]] will off-set the losses of leaving an old one, and constantly analyzing the value of their partners relative to the available pool of men. Women judge social expectations as a cost when leaving a partner. Modern society makes promiscuity less of a negative, so women are more likely to [[Marriage#Move Toward Polyamory with Rise in Divorce|jump ship when ready]].

Hypergamy can be explained in terms of behavioral biology by [[Bateman's principle]] which also explains greater sexual choosiness in females of non-human animals. The best antidote to hypergamy is [[monogamy]] because it forces women to settle down with a partner of similar [[SMV]].
